Una vida para la revolución
Tumblr media

Architecture in Montréal (No. 8)
Édifice Ernest-Cormier was the second courthouse in Montreal to bear the name Palais de justice de Montréal. It was built between 1922 and 1926, and designed by architects Louis-Auguste Amos, Charles Jewett Saxe and Ernest Cormier. It was the first major commission for Cormier after his return to Montreal from his studies in Paris. After Cormier's death in 1980, the building was renamed in his honour. It currently houses the Quebec Court of Appeal.
It is located at 100 Notre-Dame Street East, across the street from both the first Palais de justice de Montréal, Édifice Lucien-Saulnier, and the current courthouse.

Taylor Swift Tours Masterpost
Hey everyone! For absolutely no reason at all, I’ve decided to compile a masterpost of all the regular setlists, surprise songs, covers, and guests on Taylor’s tours with links to YouTube videos when available (I’m only including videos that weren’t featured in official tour movies). I’ve noticed that, although there are posts like this for specific tours, like Red or reputation, some of this information is pretty hard to find, and it might be useful to some to have it all in one place. Also, I’m something of a Taylor Swift live performance ~connoisseur (💀), so I thought I might share. :) Here we go
Note: This is only part one. I don’t know when the posts for Red, 1989, and reputation will be up.
Part One: Fearless & Speak Now
Fearless Tour (April 23, 2009-July 10, 2010)
This tour did not feature a ‘surprise song slot,’ but she did sometimes change the setlist up a bit. She also brought out a couple of surprise guests (most notably John Mayer and Katy Perry), but not nearly as many as she did on her later tours.
Regular setlist: Fearless Tour
1. ‘You Belong with Me’
2. ‘Our Song’
3. ‘Tell Me Why’
4. ‘Teardrops on My Guitar’
5. ‘Fearless’
6. ‘Forever & Always’
7. ‘Hey Stephen’
8. ‘Fifteen’
9. ‘Tim McGraw’
10. ‘White Horse’ (x)
11. ‘Love Story’
12. ‘The Way I Loved You’ (x)
13. ‘You’re Not Sorry’ / ‘What Goes Around… Comes Around’ (x)
14. ‘Picture to Burn’
15. ‘Change’ (x)
16. ‘I’m Only Me When I’m with You’ (2009) (x) OR ‘Today Was a Fairytale’ (2010)
17. ‘Should’ve Said No’ (extended version)
Footnotes:
*Starting from the show in Uncasville, Connecticut on August 28, 2009, ‘Change’ was removed from the setlist. It was added back in Greensville, South Carolina on September 4, 2009. Starting from the show in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 1, 2009, it was removed again.
*European shows on the 2009 leg often removed ‘I’m Only Me When I’m with You’ as well as ‘Change.’
*Starting from the show in Brisbane, Australia on February 4, 2010, ‘Today Was a Fairytale’ replaced ‘I’m Only Me When I’m with You’ in the encore.
Surprise songs:
1. ‘The Best Day’ - Evansville, Indiana (April 23, 2009) Note: This was actually the first show of the tour. Unfortunately, I haven’t found a video of this performance.
2. ‘Two Is Better Than One’ - Brisbane, Australia (February 4, 2010) (x)
3. ‘The Best Day’ - Moline, Illinois (May 8, 2010) (x)
4. ‘Jump Then Fall’ - Foxborough, Massachusetts (June 5, 2010) (x)
Surprise guest performances:
1. ‘Your Body is a Wonderland’ and ‘White Horse’ (already part of the regular acoustic set but performed as a duet here) with John Mayer - Los Angeles, CA (May 22, 2009) (x)
2. ‘The Way You Love Me’ with Faith Hill - Nashville, TN (September 12, 2009) (x)
3. ‘Hot N Cold’ with Katy Perry - Los Angeles, CA (April 15, 2010)
Speak Now World Tour (February 9, 2011-March 18, 2012)
Regular setlists:
Eurasia (February 9, 2011-March 30, 2011)
Note: All of the performances linked below are from the Eurasian leg. Therefore, their quality is questionable. I’m only including these because this leg had a slightly different wardrobe than the North American leg which was recorded for the tour movie. I’m not including videos from performances where the costume is the same.
1. ‘Sparks Fly’
2. ‘Mine’
3. ‘The Story of Us’
4. ‘Back to December’ / ‘Apologize’ / ‘You’re Not Sorry’ (x)
5. ‘Better Than Revenge’ (x)
6. ‘Speak Now’
7. ‘Fearless’ / ‘I’m Yours’ / ‘Hey, Soul Sister’
8. ‘Fifteen’ (x)
9. ‘You Belong with Me’
10. ‘Dear John’ (x) - I’m only including this video because she wore her hair loose lol
11. ‘Enchanted’ (x)
12. ‘Long Live’ (x)
13. ‘Love Story’ (x)
North America & Oceania (May 21, 2011-March 18, 2012)
This is based solely on the first North American show
1. ‘Sparks Fly’
2. ‘Mine’
3. ‘The Story of Us’
4. ‘Our Song’
5. ‘Mean’
6. ‘Back to December’ / ‘Apologize’ / ‘You’re Not Sorry’
7. ‘Better Than Revenge’
8. ‘Speak Now’
9. ‘Fearless’ / ‘I’m Yours’ / ‘Hey, Soul Sister’
10. ‘Last Kiss’
11. ‘You Belong with Me’
12. ‘Dear John’
13. ‘Enchanted’
14. ‘Haunted’
15. ‘Long Live’
16. ‘Fifteen’
17. ‘Love Story’
Notes:
Starting from the show in Toronto, Canada on July 15, 2011, Taylor started playing acoustic covers right after her performance of ‘Last Kiss.’
Starting from the show in Denver, CO, on September 27, 2011, ‘Ours’ was added to the encore, right before the performance of ‘Fifteen’. This marked the live debut of the song. If Taylor had a surprise guest, this was the song she would usually cut from the setlist.
Starting from the show in Perth, Australia on March 2, 2012, ‘Safe & Sound’ (x) was added to the encore. ‘Ours’ (x) was shifted to the acoustic set and was played right before ‘Last Kiss.’ It was only skipped at the show in Auckland on March 17. I’m including a video because, although the performance from the encore was featured in the tour movie, this version takes place on the B-stage and has a different costume (the purple Susan Hilferty dress she wore for half the show lol).
At the shows in Melbourne, Australia on March 12, 2012 and Auckland, New Zealand on March 16, 2012, ‘Fearless’ was skipped.

Did Poisoned Ice-Cream Kill Harriet? Or Was It Something More Sinister?
When Dr. R.L. Thomas attended the dying Harriet Chevraux in her apartment at 2383 Kemper Lane, Walnut Hills, he determined that her case “though remarkable, is not such as to warrant the presence of the Coroner.”
Harriet’s death certainly was remarkable. With her dying breath, she claimed that an ice cream soda she had recently enjoyed was poisoned. The ice cream, she insisted, was the lethal agent that led to her demise at the age of only 22 on 25 May 1909.
As her life slipped away, Harriet told her husband that, two weeks prior, she skipped breakfast and boarded the streetcar into town. According to the Cincinnati Post [26 May 1909]:
“While in the shopping district, she bought an ice cream soda. After she reached home, she suffered terrible pains in her stomach. Hemorrhages followed. In her statement to her husband, she always declared she had become poisoned by the ice cream soda.”
Harriet’s husband, Amos E. Chevraux, a chauffeur, never determined at which particular soda fountain his wife purchased that fatal concoction, so distraught was he throughout his hopeless vigil at her bedside. Dr. Thomas filled out her death certificate and set down the cause as hemophilia, apparently because of profuse internal bleeding. Harriet’s burial record at Calvary Cemetery in Evanston, attributes the fatality to ptomaine poisoning from eating ice cream, undoubtedly reported by her husband.
Tumblr media
It is most certainly possible that someone could contract ptomaine poisoning from eating ice cream in Cincinnati in 1909. In fact, it is somewhat surprising that anybody survived eating ice cream back then. The newspapers regularly reported the tragic deaths of children done in by an ice cream cone or a sundae. The city was only just beginning to employ health inspectors, who described revolting contamination almost everywhere they looked in the local food production facilities. No, it would not be unusual at all to die from ice cream poisoning in Cincinnati.
What is unusual is a thread that runs through the Post’s reporting on Harriet’s death. Three times in a fairly brief article, bichloride of mercury is mentioned in connection with her terminal condition. First, Amos Chevraux denies she employed that chemical compound:
“If the report is true that she was told by any one to use bichloride of mercury for any reason, I do not know of it.”
Then Dr. Thomas is quoted that Harriet used some sort of tablet, presumably bichloride of mercury, as an antiseptic.
Finally, Harriet’s husband repeats that if she had ever taken bichloride of mercury, he was positive she never told him anything about it.
The focus on bichloride of mercury, also known as mercuric chloride, is intriguing because, although it exhibited, as Dr. Thomas suggested, antiseptic properties in minute amounts it is highly poisonous and usually recommended as medicine only for very serious afflictions. The most common affliction for which bichloride of mercury was prescribed was syphilis.
As early as the 1500s, mercury and its compounds were utilized in an attempt to cure syphilis and other venereal diseases. It appears that the inspiration for this practice came from the Arab world, where a dilute solution of bichloride of mercury was employed to sanitize wounds. As a treatment for venereal disease, however, the concentration was so toxic that patients frequently succumbed to the treatment rather than the disease. Could Harriet have gone downtown looking for some cure for syphilis?
The obsession over this particular chemical compound is curious, because the historical records give no reason to besmirch the reputation of Mrs. Chevraux. She was born as Harriet “Hattie” Wohlgemuth in Switzerland in 1886, and was living in Cincinnati with her parents in 1900 while attending school. How she met Amos Chevraux of Canton, Ohio is unclear, but both of them were listed as residents of St. Louis when they took out a marriage license on 13 August 1904. Harriet fibbed a bit – just a bit – about her age; she was three months shy of being 18 years old, as she claimed. But the marriage was sanctified by the pastor of St. Francis Xavier College Church in St. Louis three days later.
Perhaps the most exciting event in Harriet’s marriage took place sometime in August of that year. Although officially married in the church, Amos and Harriet repeated their vows in Car 19, the famous “wedding car” of the giant Ferris Wheel at the St. Louis World’s Fair. Throughout the 1904 “Louisiana Purchase Exposition,” couples thronged to the Ferris Wheel to plight their troth 264 feet above the midway. The huge rotating structure was the original Ferris Wheel, designed by George Washington Ferris Jr. for the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893, then disassembled and shipped to St. Louis. Although her obituary claimed that Harriet and Amos were the first to wed atop the immense wheel, multiple sky-high marriages took place all summer that year.
The St. Louis World’s Fair is reputed to be the event at which ice cream cones were first served in America. Maybe that is where Harriet got her ultimately deadly taste for frozen confections. Whatever the real story, it appears that Harriet Wohlgemuth Chevraux took some secrets to her grave.

Luca Guadagnino, Margaret Atwood, Pedro Almodóvar, Ed Harris & More Sign Letter Of Solidarity For Polish LGBT+ Rights
A wide group of global entertainment figures have signed a letter supporting the Polish LGBT+ community in the face of growing controversy in the country.
On Tuesday, the government stepped in to support the Polish town of Tuchow, which recently lost financial support from the EU after it set up a ‘LGBT-free’ zone. The authorities said they were “supporting a municipality that has a pro-family agenda”; the decision has provoked angry responses around the world. On August 8, authorities detained 48 people at a reportedly peaceful pro-LGBT+ protest.
The responses now include an open letter signed by a cross-section of notable figures from film, literature and further afield, including the Oscar-winning director Pedro Almodóvar and Oscar-nominated Luca Guadagnino, the Nobel Prize-winning author Olga Tokarczuk, The Handmaid’s Tale writer Margaret Atwood, and Polish filmmakers Agnieszka Holland and Jan Komasa.
The letter, published on the website wyborcza.pl, states that homophobia in Poland is growing because of the incumbent socially conservative government, which it claims is using LGBT+ groups as a “scapegoat”. The letter is addressed to European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen and calls on the organization to step in and “defend core European values” of “equality, non-discrimination, respect for minorities” which it says are being “blatantly violated in Poland”.
You can read the full letter and see the signatories below.
Dear Dr. von der Leyen:
We, the undersigned, express our outrage at repressions directed against the LGBT+ community in Poland. We speak out in solidarity with activists and their allies, who are being detained, brutalized, and intimidated. We voice our grave concern about the future of democracy in Poland, a country with an admirable history of resistance to totalitarianism and struggle for freedom.
On Friday, 7 August 2020, 48 persons were arrested in Warsaw – in some cases quite brutally – and detained on the grounds that they had participated in a violent illegal gathering. In fact, they were engaged in a peaceful protest in solidarity with an LGBT+ activist named Margot, who had been arrested for damaging a homophobic campaigner’s van. Her group had also placed rainbow flags over statues, including a statue of Christ. These actions were neither “hooliganism” nor “provocations,” as Poland’s government-run media insist, but rather desperate acts of resistance against degrading homophobic hate speech. The van is one of many similar vehicles parading outrageous claims around the cities of Poland: equating homosexuality with pedophilia, and asserting that gays are the source of diseases and a threat to children. Efforts to stop this well-funded hate campaign by legal means had led to nothing.
The broader context is the persistent use of anti-LGBT+ rhetoric by Polish politicians and media, attacks against “LGBT ideology” in the recent presidential campaign, preceded by the emergence in many municipalities and districts of “zones free of LGBT ideology,” allegedly defending the safety of families and children, and last year’s violent attacks against Equality March in Białystok. Homophobic aggression in Poland is growing because it is condoned by the ruling party, which has chosen sexual minorities as a scapegoat with no regard for the safety and well-being of citizens. Margot is, in fact, a political prisoner, held captive for her refusal to accept indignity.
We call on the Polish government to stop targeting sexual minorities, to stop supporting organizations that spread homophobia and to hold accountable those who are responsible for unlawful and violent arrests of August 7, 2020.
We call on the European Commission to take immediate steps to defend core European values – equality, non-discrimination, respect for minorities – which are being blatantly violated in Poland. LGBT+ rights are human rights and must be defended as such.

𝐋'𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐞 𝐞𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐝'𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭 - comentários por Geneviève Sylvie Évreux D’Harcourt
1. BLANCHE OF NAVARRE* (née Évreux) - b. 1330, d. 1398 (FC: Cate Blanchett)
